After many years of successful sales of the Sanlorenzo SL, SD, Superyacht and Explorer ranges, Sanlorenzo has once again announced a new product range. The new SX line and its flagship model, the SX88, which were announced at a exclusive press event in Milan on the 25th of May 2017. The SX range will be further expanded in 2018 with the SX72 and again in 2019 with the introduction of the SX104. This highly innovative series of new models will combine Sanlorenzo's distinct heritage styling with the latest innovations in the yachting industry. The result is a crossover between the SL, SD and Explorer ranges which achieves an impressive volume and balance of spaces on board. To date a total of six SX88 units have been sold and are in production. A groundbreaking interior design by the renowned Italian interior designer Piero Lissoni will define the first SX88 unit which is due to premiere at Cannes Yachting Festival later this year.
The SX88 is a exciting new model which contains many “firsts” for Sanlorenzo, the result is a Copernican revolution with many unique and distinguished features which make the yacht original, innovative and environmentally friendly:
- GRP hull and carbon fibre superstructure.
- Volvo IPS 1200 Engines.
- Semi-displacement hull tested in the Wageningen, Holland tank test facility to optimise the performance of the SX88 in its different speed ranges up to 23 knots.
- Her open stern creates multi-functional area which can be used as a garage, beach club or sport activity area.
- Two main deck layouts: Open space or Owner’s cabin.
- One steering position on the flybridge.
- Flybridge area can be closed and air-conditioned.
- Advanced building processes to strengthen her open hull design.
- Highest environment sustainability as a result of the use of low impact materials and process.
The Sanlorenzo SX88 is available with a choice of three layouts including a five cabin layout available as an optional extra. The owner’s cabin can either be situated forward on the main deck or amidships on the lower deck.
The SX88 boasts wide open spaces and large glass surfaces which result in an effective and optimised relationship between her interior and exterior design. In recent years this style of design has been increasingly demanded by the most experienced yacht owners. As a result, the SX88 aims to produce the highest degree of synchronicity between her form and function.
A high, seaworthy bow lowers toward the stern and streamlines the mass of the yacht, which in turn gives her an impressive profile reminiscent of an all-weather expedition vessels. The superstructure is defined by large glass surfaces painted in a dark shade which aims to balance the fulness of the superstructure with the openness of the windows. As on a large superyacht, the only steering position on board the SX88 is on the upper deck. The flybridge is protected by a windshield which can be closed from the elements by side windows and strataglass panels or alternatively, as an optional extra, by a innovative deployable rigid glass structure.
As a result of this helm solution, the fore area of the salon on the main deck is free for use and can be arranged as an Owner’s cabin or as a wide multi-functional open space. The main deck is all on the same level, as with larger superyachts. Depending on the layout option selected, her main deck can be opened to the elements from stern to bow which results in remarkably spacious feeling throughout the SX88. The fore area of the main deck is fully equipped and furnished to offer a relaxing and functional living area with double L-shaped sofas, coffee tables and an extended sunbathing surfaces. This unique connection between interior and exterior spaces results in a unparalleled relationship with the ocean, something which is rarely possible to achieve on a 27m motor yacht.
The stern area also features a range of practical solutions which differentiate the SX88 from other yachts of its size. The beach club area is five steps lower than the main deck and can accommodate a 15ft tender, a jetski and other toys. A crane is elegantly hidden in the prolonged profile of the handrail, which allows toys to be deployed without disturbing the SX88's exterior profile. When clear of toys, the wide beach club area extends 2ft over the water and offers 30 sq. m of space for seafront relaxation under the shade of sunbrellas.
Sanlorenzo has directed particular attention towards to the environment sustainability of the SX88, with a specific care and awareness for its cruising environment as well as the environment the SX88 is manufactured in. The SX88’s construction process is based on low environmental impact techniques and materials which Sanlorenzo has developed and refined specifically for its SX fleet. This has been achieved by the combination of high power lithium batteries, new lighting technologies, low consumption systems, efficient thermal insulation and through fitting specialised insulating glass on the windows. All services on board the SX88 can be used for 4 to 8 hours at “zero emissions” and as a result RINA has awarded the SX88 its 'Green Class' certification.
This innovative and advanced motoryacht concept was developed Sanlorenzo’s in house design team, led by
Luca Santella, an Olympian and experienced yacht designer who previously developed the Bluegame range of motor yachts. The SX88 has also benefitted from a unique exterior design by Officina Italiana Design’s Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta. Her hull water lines were developed by Lou Codega, an undisputed master in designing high performance fishing vessels.
The SX88 will be manufactured in the Sanlorenzo Ameglia production facility and main headquarters, which is UNI EN ISO 14001 certified to guarantee that its production process respects the environment. The SX88 will be officially introduced to the market in September during Cannes Yachting Festival 2017.
